AGASTYA

The exact date of Agastya's birth or details of his lifetime is not known. But probably he lived2500 to 3000ycars ago in South India.
Agastya was an Aryan sage, who got his education of Ayurveda from Bharadwaja Muni. During his later days, he crossed the Vindhya Mountains and settled in South India where he did most of his life's work.
Agastya is considered to be the father of the Dravidian literature and science. He is venerated as the first propounder of the Siddha system of medicine, popular in Tamil Nadu. It is also said that he established a centre in the Siddhakuta Hill in the present day Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu and people say he is still alive.

In the most revered (Hindu) scripture Rigg Veda, Agastya's name is mentioned. It has been written that he was the author of several hymns. Rishi Agastya developed the Tamil language. He has to his credit many 'Shastras', written in Sanskrit.
